Football Centre of Excellence to expand in 2018/19 season

Success for the College's Centre of Excellence.

The new programme that links football and education has seen 25 footballers represent the Centre of Excellence whilst studying a sports course at the college.

After a successful start to the Football Centre of Excellence - a partnership between Grantham College and Harrowby United - we are delighted to announce our expansion plans for the 18/19 season.

In a recent interview Head Coach, Alex Cross informs us of the achievements to date: “The team are currently challenging for the college league title. We had a good cup run; we have had 15 players represent Harrowby United’s Under 21s and 8 players training or playing for Harrowby United First Team. We are also working closely with numerous grassroots clubs where players are gaining further footballing experience. It’s been great to see the link with Harrowby United work effectively and great to see relationships building with local grassroots clubs. I am certainly excited to continue to deliver our 5 year plan”.

The UEFA Licensed Coach explains the exciting expansion plans: “It is important for us to progress after the early success of the programme. Next season we plan to have an Under 16s team, a minimum of 2 U19 teams, continuation of the U21 team and more players progressing into the First Team at Harrowby United. We are also excited to announce that we will have 12 opportunities for players to study a degree equivalent qualification whilst receiving a 2 year paid contract at Harrowby United.:

There are limited spaces available in every aspect of the programme and places are already filling up so it is advised to get applications in early to save any disappointment.
