An interest in carpentry & joinery and successful completion of an interview and entry test

This course is designed as a training programme and is suitable for those preparing for work in the construction industry as a carpenter or joiner.

This nationally recognised qualification is designed to prepare you for working in the construction occupations of carpentry or joinery. The course involves both practical and theoretical activities, and covers the following core units:

• Basic wood working joints
• Building methods & construction technology
• Information, quantities & communicating with others
• Maintain & use hand tools
• Prepare & use portable power tools
• Safe working practices.

You may be required to study Key Skills as part of your course.

Practical assignments, a series of knowledge questions for each unit and a multi-choice online end test.

Successful completion of this programme will allow you to progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Wood Occupations, or to seek an Apprenticeship in Carpentry or Joinery.

Tools and materials are supplied by the College. Safety footwear is required for all workshop sessions.

Study materials are required for all theory sessions.
