Grantham College Scores with Football Grants

Following a successful funding application Grantham College has been awarded grants from the Football Foundation which will see two new football teams formed.

The first new team for girls has already been awarded £400 from the Football Foundation through their Junior Kit Scheme for a new Nike kit. The team has already created a great deal of interest with students Melissa Gaffney, Sammi Shaw, Lauren Harris, Kat Simmonds, Laura Redmond, Alison Dagg, Amy Nadoleck, Maria Goy, Sarah Ball, Kaye Hawkins, Saskia Mills, Stacey Beardsley, Chelsea Brockett and Kelly Doughty all attending training sessions. The team has only played one game so far this season but are in training to play John Leggott College in the British Colleges Plate competition in late February as well as the BCS Futsal tournament in March.

Shane Spafford coach at Grantham College said “I am very impressed with their dedication and willingness to learn new skills. You can see the improvements in every session. Now we have our new strip the girls are chomping at the bit and can not wait to play their next match.”

The second football team planned to be created will be for learners with disabilities. The funding awarded to the College will go towards helping to pay for coaching, hiring facilities and entry fees into leagues for both teams over the next 3 years.

The funding boost will allow Grantham College to increase numbers of girls and learners with disabilities into the sport of football as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle and supporting the Every Child Matters agenda.
